In the Kitchen with Speck Products – a GIVEAWAY!

Disclosure: I was provided free product from Speck Products to try and review. I was not compensated for this post. All thoughts are my own.

There’s one thing that I love and that is gadgets that help make my life easier in a variety of ways. What I love even more than those wonderful gadgets, are products that are created to keep them safe and even prettier. This is important to me for a few reasons. Most importantly, I have small kids. With a two year old and a four year old in the house, I need to make sure any important items I have are safe from little hands – this includes all that they love to do to items of value (you know what I’m talking about here if you have any experience with kids of those ages!). Another reason is that I’m in the kitchen quite often. I often use my electronic gadgets in the kitchen, and they need to be safe from bacon grease and flying flour, among other things. Oh, let’s not forget hard floors and sharp corners! Lastly, but not least, I’m a girly girl and love all things bright, colorful and pretty.

My Gorgeous SmartFlex View for iPhone in Grape/Lavendar/Peacock
that I received from Speck Products.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m an iPhone user and for my last birthday my wonderful husband got me the iPhone 5. When he purchased it for me, he also got a screen protector and a really nice case for my phone. The case he had purchased was the CandyShell Flip Case for iPhone 5  in White/Graphite/Pebble made by a company named Speck Products. I was already familiar with Speck Products, since they are a Northern California company and I’m a bay area native. Speck makes a variety of products for many different smartphones and tablets, and in fun colors and patterns. Their cases come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to assist in the different needs of the phone or tablet user. One of the things I liked about my CandyShell Flip Case is how snugly it fit my phone, the classy and polished look of the color combination, and the special feature where the bottom flips open if I want to place it on a docking station.

When it comes to my cases on my phone, I do like a little variety and it’s fun to switch up your cases for a new look. A few weeks back I received a beautiful iPhone 5 case from Speck Products. The case I received is called the SmartFlex View for iPhone 5 and this particular one is came in the Grape/Lavendar/Peacock color combination. What I love about this case (aside from the gorgeous color combination) is the retractable stand that allows this phone to sit upright. It’s ideal for watching videos and FaceTiming, but I also found it useful if I’m in the kitchen following a recipe or searching for quick and useful tips and tricks while cooking. Often my hands are dirty while I’m in the kitchen so if I just have to use one finger rather than a whole hand to search for something quickly on my phone that’s a huge help. D-Man also likes to borrow my phone while I’m cooking and watch videos or play games, and he’s loving the stand feature. Especially when it comes to making his own videos, which he does do quite often!

Designed in California, made in China.

Unfortunately, I have dropped my phone a few times by accident. Thankfully this case is sturdy enough to take the force of a fall without any damage to my phone. Although the little kickstand on the back of the phone does look a bit flimsy, or as though it may break if you don’t open and close it properly, it’s surprisingly sturdy! D-Man plays with it often and in the beginning he wasn’t very careful about it. I would get so worried he’d broken it, and it was always perfectly fine! You can even apply a good amount of pressure to the phone while it’s standing vertically, and it still stands sturdy. I like that you can stand the phone either vertically or horizontally and it works either way.

I’m very happy with my SmartFlex View for my iPhone 5, and would definitely purchase another. This particular model comes in four different colors. It’s a bit less slippery in my hand than the CandyShell Flip Case, although that one is sleek and shiny and comes in eleven different color combinations. The next gadget I’ll be purchasing is the iPad 4, and I already have the case I want picked out for it. I’ll be getting the HandyShell for iPad which, like the SmartFlex View, has a stand on the back where you can view your iPad either vertically or horizontally. Since the stand is also in a handle shape, I’ll also be able to hang it from one of my higher cabinets so I can view the screen as I’m cooking or baking in the kitchen. I’m definitely looking forward to that!

Love that I can look up recipes while my phone stands vertically using the SmartFlex View for Iphone 5.

Speck Products has such a wide variety of cases and products for iPhone and iPad users, as well as other smartphones and tablets. Speck is so amazing that they are offering to send two of my lucky readers a protective case of their choice for whichever device they please! Isn’t that awesome?! You can view their wide selection here, then let me know below which Speck item you’d love to have.
This giveaway is open until August 27th, you must be 18 and over to win, and a U.S. resident. Good Luck!

I would love the iGuy for the iPad. My kids use mine all the time and it scares me to death that they might break or crack the screen.

[Sponsored]: Summertime is coming and will be here before we know it! You all know that I love easy meals during the warmer months, and I also love a good meal in a bowl. It’s also Vidalia Onion season 🧅 so I paired this seasonal favorite with pan-seared shrimp and veggies as a light rice bowl using your choice of grains.☺️This meal is an absolute delight!

Get the recipe and all the Vidalia Onion details by clicking the link in my profile or desktop users can click here for the recipe >> https://mamaharriskitchen.com/2021/06/pan-seared-shrimp-veggie-rice-bowl-vidalia-onions/ .

(AD) There has been a lot of cooking going on this year, so I’ve tried to make life a bit easier by getting creative with my leftovers. These pulled pork totchos are a great example of leftovers with a few key ingredients to create something new to keep our meals exciting. Adding a few key ingredients like @lamorenausa adobo peppers and jalapeños and carrots definitely livens up something simple. La Morena peppers are hand selected, using only the highest quality peppers to bring you authentic home style flavors of Mexico. I purchased my La Morena items from my local Safeway, but you can find them at your favorite grocery store in the international food section. #PayItForwardwithLM #VivaLaMorena #WeCanWithLaMorena

INGREDIENTS:
- 32 oz tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheese (Mexican blend + Pepper Jack)
- 2 cups prepared bbq pulled pork (check my pulled pork sliders recipe!)
- 1/2 can La Morena Adobo Peppers & Sauce
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons ranch dressing
- 1 cup pico de Gallo
- 1/2 cup guacamole
- 3 chopped green onions
- 3-4 La Morena jalapeños and carrots, sliced

INSTRUCTIONS:
Prepare tater tots as instructed, in air fryer or oven. Heat oven to 450°.
Cover the bottom of a large cast iron skillet with the cooked tater tots.
Top with 1 1/2 cup of cheese.
Combine the chopped adobo peppers and sauce with the prepared bbq pulled pork. Spread the pulled pork mixture on top of the tater tots, then top with the remaining cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
Top with sour cream, ranch, pico de Gallo, guacamole, green onions, and sliced jalapeños and carrots.

Enjoy!! 😋

Happy December, all!! 🎄Since it’s basically Christmas now, it’s time to share ALL the holiday cookies!

Every year I join my friend @natashanicholes as she heads up her #HousefulofCookies virtual cookie swap, where many of us share some sweet treats for the holiday season.

This year I’ve created Cranberry Pistachio Citrus Cookies to share as my contribution. 🍪 I know that a lot of things have turned “virtual” throughout this year, but a little virtual bake-off is a fun way to connect with some of your favorite people!

Hello Instagram fam! 💖 There’s some new faces around here and it’s been a while since I showed mine!

I’m Dawn, creator of Mama Harris’ Kitchen, and I’m so glad you’re here with me! In this space I share my family-friendly recipes for all occasions, whether it be a 30-minute meal for those busy weeknight dinners or a full spread for entertaining a crowd - and everything in between.

Mama Harris’ Kitchen began back in 2012, in fact it’s 8 years this month! 🥳 What started as a way to document my newfound cooking hobby while managing my “new” life as a stay-at-home wife and mom to a 1 and 3 year along with teens and preteens, and it quickly grew into what it is now - a recipe resource for busy families like mine that enjoy flavorful and comforting home-cooking using pantry staples along with fresh and local ingredients as often as possible.

🍿Five fun facts about me:
1. I LOVE elephants! 🐘 I collect a lot of elephant items, whether it’s trinkets or artwork, notepads etc. I love what elephants symbolize and I truly love anything elephant related.
2. I’m a total plant lady! 🌱 I have about 35 houseplants, give or take, and there’s still more on the list of wants. Plants have become such a peaceful outlet for me, and I feel that they really center me within my space. I love the element plants bring to your space and the feel of your home with them in it, and new leaves are so exciting!
3. I have seven tattoos and I have plans for about eight more. 💉 Those that know me aren’t surprised, but those that follow me here tend to find it a bit surprising. 🙃
4. I’ve been a mother for a long time, over half my life! I’ve also been a lot of different “types” of mom - teen mom, single mom, working mom, stepmom, stay at home mom, PROUD mom, military mom, mother in law - the list goes on. No matter what, motherhood looks different for everyone and there’s unique challenges and experiences each mother faces. Please be gentle with yourself! ❤️At the end of the day we’re all just trying our best!
5. I’m a bit of an introvert, and often struggle with the “social” aspect of social media. I tend to go silent sometimes, but I’m working on it.

☀️Thank you for joining me here!
