football game day party

Gather ’em Up for GAME DAY with Family Dollar {GIVEAWAY closed}

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. Family Dollar, in connection with the P&G and Pepsi NFL program, provided me with a prize pack and gift card to facilitate my review, along with the prize pack and gift card to give away to a lucky reader. As always, all opinions are my own

family dollar game day savingsDo you love to host parties, but sometimes it’s just not in your budget?

Now that football season is in full swing, we like to invite our friends and family over to watch our favorite teams play. Sometimes they play each other, but more often than not we’re trying to catch more than one game in a day. So we’ll have a “viewing party” and I’ll whip up some treats, snacks, drinks and plenty of finger foods (have you checked out my recent wing recipes?).

PHOTO-D-R1I usually have a great time at these parties, laughing and smack talking about our opposing teams. It’s the days leading up to our game days that can be stressful. Buying plenty of food and drinks, and cleaning the house in preparation for guests!

Since I’m a food blogger, the kitchen is always where I focus my attention. More often than not there’s either dirty dishes in the sink or dishes in the dishwasher waiting to be put away. The counters always need to be wiped down and the stove always needs to be cleaned. Of course, I clean all of this before I start preparing for the food and drinks we serve our guests.. and then I have to clean again before everyone arrives – and again after they leave. That’s not even mentioning the rest of the cleaning for our house! We have all tile floors downstairs and hardwood stairs in our home, so we have to sweep and mop a lot of area to make sure it’s clean – with no sticky residue either! Since we have little ones in our house, there’s almost always something bound to be on the floor, whether it’s toys, shoes, crayons or video games. In addition to that, we need to dust, make sure the bathrooms are clean and there’s fresh linens (hello laundry!) and most importantly, clean any fingerprints that might be on the tv! Not just that, I also like my home to smell delicious and inviting. Whether it’s candles or an air freshener, it’s definitely a must on my list.

family dollar grand openingThis is where Family Dollar has saved me! I purchased plenty of cleaning supplies and caffeine to prepare me for my cleaning binge before our nest big game day party. For the longest time I had never even been to a Family Dollar store because there weren’t any nearby, but recently a new one opened that wasn’t too far away and I was instantly ecstatic. Cleaning supplies are not cheap, so when I find them on the cheap somewhere without having to clip coupons or jump through hoops I’m a happy camper.

family dollar game day clean up prep - Mama Harris' KitchenNow, Family Dollar has a lot more than cleaning supplies. In fact they have many items you can use to get game day ready, including snacks, drinks, toiletries, BBQ essentials and even small appliances like coffee pots and toasters. You can also purchase items to have on hand for those party accidents like spills and crumbs so your real attention can focus on what’s important, the game!

game day printablesNow, for my party I’ll be printing out a custom welcome sign, as well as team logo pennants for our favorite teams. I’m a 49ers fan, along with two of our kids. My husband is a Raiders fan and so is one of our kids, and then one of our little ones didn’t want to choose sides, so he has his own favorite team – the Seahawks! So I’ll be decorating with all three team pennants, as well as our custom welcome sign! You can download the printable pennants for your favorite team(s) here, and customize your own welcome sign too!

PHOTO-B-R1I’ve included a few tips on how to have a stress free game day party:

  • Potlucks! Even if you’re the hostess with the mostest, sometimes it can be stressful to prepare a ton of food to entertain your guests. So ask them to bring something, and all you have to do is prepare a dish or two. The best thing is that most of the time people bring food in disposable containers, so the clean up is easier too. Score!
  • Prepare. Whether it’s extra paper towels for spills or extra toilet paper for the bathroom, you want to be prepared for anything. Nothing is worse than a guest spilling chocolate chip cookies on your white carpet, or getting stuck in the bathroom with no toilet paper.
  • Decorate. I love a good party, and sometimes what makes it come together is fun little decorations. Whether it’s a tablecloth, napkins, balloons or even fun games, sometimes it just brings it all together and makes game day memorable. Try these fun printables where you can create your own welcome sign and print pennants for your favorite teams. Best thing? They’re all F-R-E-E!

game day savingsNow I have something extra special to share. I’m offering one lucky reader a party pack to host their own game day fun. To get you started it includes one roll of Bounty paper towels, Dawn dish detergent and Tide pods PLUS a $25 gift card to Family Dollar!

It’s also Vidalia Onion season 🧅 so I paired this seasonal favorite with pan-seared shrimp and veggies as a light rice bowl using your choice of grains.☺️This meal is an absolute delight!

(AD) There has been a lot of cooking going on this year, so I’ve tried to make life a bit easier by getting creative with my leftovers. These pulled pork totchos are a great example of leftovers with a few key ingredients to create something new to keep our meals exciting. Adding a few key ingredients like @lamorenausa adobo peppers and jalapeños and carrots definitely livens up something simple. La Morena peppers are hand selected, using only the highest quality peppers to bring you authentic home style flavors of Mexico. I purchased my La Morena items from my local Safeway, but you can find them at your favorite grocery store in the international food section. #PayItForwardwithLM #VivaLaMorena #WeCanWithLaMorena

INGREDIENTS:
- 32 oz tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheese (Mexican blend + Pepper Jack)
- 2 cups prepared bbq pulled pork (check my pulled pork sliders recipe!)
- 1/2 can La Morena Adobo Peppers & Sauce
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons ranch dressing
- 1 cup pico de Gallo
- 1/2 cup guacamole
- 3 chopped green onions
- 3-4 La Morena jalapeños and carrots, sliced

INSTRUCTIONS:
Prepare tater tots as instructed, in air fryer or oven. Heat oven to 450°.
Cover the bottom of a large cast iron skillet with the cooked tater tots.
Top with 1 1/2 cup of cheese.
Combine the chopped adobo peppers and sauce with the prepared bbq pulled pork. Spread the pulled pork mixture on top of the tater tots, then top with the remaining cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
Top with sour cream, ranch, pico de Gallo, guacamole, green onions, and sliced jalapeños and carrots.

Enjoy!! 😋

Happy December, all!! 🎄Since it’s basically Christmas now, it’s time to share ALL the holiday cookies!

Every year I join my friend @natashanicholes as she heads up her #HousefulofCookies virtual cookie swap, where many of us share some sweet treats for the holiday season.

This year I’ve created Cranberry Pistachio Citrus Cookies to share as my contribution. 🍪 I know that a lot of things have turned “virtual” throughout this year, but a little virtual bake-off is a fun way to connect with some of your favorite people!

Hello Instagram fam! 💖 There’s some new faces around here and it’s been a while since I showed mine!

I’m Dawn, creator of Mama Harris’ Kitchen, and I’m so glad you’re here with me! In this space I share my family-friendly recipes for all occasions, whether it be a 30-minute meal for those busy weeknight dinners or a full spread for entertaining a crowd - and everything in between.

Mama Harris’ Kitchen began back in 2012, in fact it’s 8 years this month! 🥳 What started as a way to document my newfound cooking hobby while managing my “new” life as a stay-at-home wife and mom to a 1 and 3 year along with teens and preteens, and it quickly grew into what it is now - a recipe resource for busy families like mine that enjoy flavorful and comforting home-cooking using pantry staples along with fresh and local ingredients as often as possible.

🍿Five fun facts about me:
1. I LOVE elephants! 🐘 I collect a lot of elephant items, whether it’s trinkets or artwork, notepads etc. I love what elephants symbolize and I truly love anything elephant related.
2. I’m a total plant lady! 🌱 I have about 35 houseplants, give or take, and there’s still more on the list of wants. Plants have become such a peaceful outlet for me, and I feel that they really center me within my space. I love the element plants bring to your space and the feel of your home with them in it, and new leaves are so exciting!
3. I have seven tattoos and I have plans for about eight more. 💉 Those that know me aren’t surprised, but those that follow me here tend to find it a bit surprising. 🙃
4. I’ve been a mother for a long time, over half my life! I’ve also been a lot of different “types” of mom - teen mom, single mom, working mom, stepmom, stay at home mom, PROUD mom, military mom, mother in law - the list goes on. No matter what, motherhood looks different for everyone and there’s unique challenges and experiences each mother faces. Please be gentle with yourself! ❤️At the end of the day we’re all just trying our best!
5. I’m a bit of an introvert, and often struggle with the “social” aspect of social media. I tend to go silent sometimes, but I’m working on it.

☀️Thank you for joining me here!
