I’m currently in the air flying over Northern California, on my way to Austin, Texas to attend BlogHer Food 2013! Who would have thought just 11 months ago when I decided to start my blog that almost a year later I’d be here today, attending my very first blogger conference? It all started with me (obsessively) posting my daily meals on my personal Facebook account, friends encouraged me to blog the recipes and the rest is history! Now here I am with almost a years worth of archives of recipes and memories! This blog has taken me on quite a journey and now here I am on a plane to Texas to attend BlogHer Food as a volunteer.
I remember when I applied to volunteer (aka BlogHerShip), I was still new to blogging and still learning so much. I decided to just apply and see what happens. I honestly didn’t even expect to get selected! Well, not only did I get accepted as a volunteer but my good friend Xenia @ Raised by Culture that I’ve known for well over a decade got accepted too! We’re rooming together, with another volunteer Ngoc @ San Jose Food Blog for a fun girls weekend! I’m beyond thrilled!
Prior to starting my own blog, I had no idea what this blogging thing was all about. Sure, I read a few blogs that I’d stumble on through Pinterest or a link on a search engine or social network, but I didn’t understand what it all really meant. I didn’t know to subscribe to the blog if I liked it, or to comment or continue to come back. These are precisely the things that I want to encourage people to do that find my blog. I want them to want to come back. I’m not going to lie, this past month or two has been crazy busy and I’ve had a lot going on. It’s been more than frustrating at times that I have recipes I want to share on here and I just can’t find the time! These are all reasons I think this conference will be beneficial to me. They will help me to realize the next steps I want to take with my little spot in the blogosphere, and how to bring all of my plans and visions into action.
There’s some pretty amazing sponsors and vendors that will be attending the conference, and I look forward to meeting many of them and forming working relationships with them. Check them out here. Some of the fabulous speakers that will be sharing their stories, lessons and valuable information can be found here. I’m looking forward to seeing quite a few of them! One final reason I’m excited to attend is to meet many of the other attendees, some are bloggers I’ve gotten to know this past year, through their blogs and sharing our lives together.
I look forward to this exciting event, and I’m sure I’ll be coming back with a wealth of knowledge and many fun memories.
