During this time of year there’s often a lot of prep work going on in my home. Not only are we preparing for the holidays, kids on winter break, purchasing the last of our gifts for Christmas and getting our holiday menu squared away. In addition to all of the holiday season prep-work, we’re also gearing up for the big game next month. Throughout football season we love to entertain and have friends over for some good food and some friendly smack talk. Once the big game rolls around we’re ready to celebrate and have some fun with all of our favorite that we’d enjoyed throughout the season.
For the past two football season I’ve created a series of wings that has really added to our football watching sessions. I’ve shared most of these recipes, and this year I have to say that these smoky brown sugar wings were one of the favorites. Of course, it’s hard to choose just one wing flavor as a favorite, so sometimes we search through all of my chicks wing it recipes and I’m reminded of a few of the other favorites we’ve prepared throughout one of our favorite seasons.
Of course, wings aren’t the only option for game day. There’s actually quite a few “must have” foods for the Big Game and that you can choose from. I actually have an entire category chosen for some of my favorite football recipes to choose from, and they’re all delicious and perfect for Game Day consumption.
This year we’re excited that the Big Game will be held locally, in Northern California (the Bay Area, to be exact.) We’re close enough to participate in a lot of the events that week as well as go to the game, if we chose to. In fact, our household is split right down the middle with two different bay area teams as the favorite for our different family members.
That’s why when I heard that Marcel Reece, fullback for the Oakland Raiders was going to be at Nob Hill in Alameda, CA last week, I knew this was an event I needed to attend. I got to meet Marcel face to face and even received an autographed photo and mini football for my guys that they could treasure.
Not only did Nob Hill customers get to meet Marcel Reece, but there were also fun games and prizes right at the door. As soon as you walked in there was a table set up with plenty of Procter & Gamble products and samples to choose from. We got to spin the wheel and win a few extra sample size prizes as we waited in line to meet Marcel.
In addition to the fun door prizes, if you purchased $30 worth of Procter & Gamble Products that day you received a mini football Marcel Reece would sign. There were also coupons and other fun items, and the local radio station was even out front announcing the event and playing music.
The moment Marcel Reece walked up he went straight for the kids that were in attendance. He greeted them and gave them plenty of hugs and smiles, and seemed genuinely warm and kind. At that moment I wished I had brought D-Man, he would have loved to have met him in person and chat with him about football.
I had a great time meeting Marcel Reece and thought he was the perfect choice as the player to meet for this event. He represented not only his team but the Bay Area and I couldn’t have been prouder. Even when people wanted to chat with him for a few minutes longer than expected or take multiple pictures that even my own kids would have sighed heavily at, he just smiled and assured everything that all was well. It was certainly a pleasure and I’m happy that my Raiders’ fans have a few items for their football memorabilia they can cherish for years to come.
He even posed for a photo with a couple other local bloggers and myself, and we all had a great time. It was fun to see some of my friends in attendance as well!
Now let’s get back to those Procter & Gamble items for purchase. I bet you’re all assured that I have Game Day covered on the food front, but with five kids, two dogs and a houseful of boys you can imagine some of the messes we deal with. Not just all of the dishes that come with all of the food I make on the daily, but the clothes and blankets, the funky smells and everything else. Well I got plenty of Procter & Gamble items to help prep for Game Day for the kids and the house so all I have to worry about it the food. Believe me, that’s enough for me!
