What’s your favorite way to hang out with your family?
For us, it’s movie nights. We all sprawl all over our sectional with snacks and drinks and watch a good movie. Sometimes we watch old movies (my husband is obsessed with 80’s movies) and sometimes it’s a brand spanking new release. One thing that we can all agree on is the MARVEL® movies. You know the ones, they are based on the old characters from comic books. I’ve loved them as long as I can remember. My dad collected comic books as a kid and teen and his love of the characters rubbed off on me. When I met my husband, the movie buff, it just worked and we’ve never missed a Marvel release.
Now some of the bigger movies we will catch in the theaters, but for a family of seven like us, it’s so much more fun to turn our home into a theater – not to mention much more cost effective! Just recently we decided to do a movie night watching the first Avenger movie so we can be all caught up to catch the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier which comes out on Tuesday September 9th!
Muddy Buddies with Pretzel M&M’s®
Typically we all settle in with treats of our choice – popcorn, drinks, candy, snacks. Sometimes I’ll make something quick and fun that we call share, like these Muddy Buddies with Pretzel M&M’s! I made these Muddy Buddies with milk chocolate, honey roasted peanut butter and the typical Rice Chex. I thought the Pretzel M&M’s would add a nice crunch and a pop of color to make it fun and these babies did not disappoint!
Since we were going to be watching Captain America, I decided to pick out just the red and blue M&M’s and we made a little craft for the younger boys so it wouldn’t get too messy. We used white lunch bags and cut off the top half. We doodled on them in red and white crayon and they put their initials so they’d know who each belonged to. This was the perfect size for them to munch on their snacks while the movie was playing, and now they know all about Captain America and can’t wait to see the next one on Tuesday!
Ingredients:
- 9 cups Rice Chex
- 6 ounces milk chocolate
- 1/2 cup honey roasted creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 medium bag of Pretzel M&M’s®
Directions:
Measure out the Chex and place it in a large bowl.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the chocolate, peanut butter and butter.
Stir continuously as it’s melting so you don’t burn the chocolate.
Once it’s smooth, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the melted peanut butter and chocolate combination over the Chex cereal.
Stir well to distribute the chocolate all over the cereal.
Pour half of the powdered sugar in a large Ziploc freezer bag and scoop the peanut butter chocolate covered Chex inside.
Pour the rest of the powdered sugar in, seal securely and shake until all the pieces are fully coated.
Let cool, then add in the M&M’s!
I cut off the top half of white lunch bags, drew the Captain America shield and let the boys color decorate the rest.
They came out so cute, and were the perfect size for little hands!
Now it’s time to enjoy our movie.

Oh, speaking of Walmart, that’s where I went shopping for this recipe. There’s so many different sizes and flavors of M&M’s to choose from, but I’m happy I chose the pretzel flavor for this recipe, it rounded out all of the flavors perfectly.
Walmart was advertising the Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is available next Tuesday for purchase, the boys got excited about the movie so I spotted these shirts too! We always buy our favorite character shirts there, so of course we had to get them.

Ok- I am stuck at “family of 7”, then I finally moved on and got stuck again when I realized that I wasn’t invited over for movie night, lolll.
This is an awesome recipe…. but I am wondering if there is any issue with the check sticking together once you pour the chocolate together. Basically, what prevents them from clustering together? I want to try this so bad! 🙂

Yes girl, we have 5 kids under one roof! Well, technically one’s an adult and two are teens.. sooo…..
The chocolate is still warm when you pour it, then the powdered sugar coating helps prevent the stickies!

Such a fun recipe! My boys would love this on movie night! Some of our faves are anything Star Wars, animated, or 80s movies. And thanks for the heads up about Captain America!

You surround yourself with beautiful things and beautiful people. You aren’t afraid to tell it like it is and your friends know they can come to you for an honest opinion.”

I got Ms. Brown “Drive, Intelligence, and resourcefulness are all words that describe you and Ms. Brown. You love learning and being challenged. When you have a spare minute, you love to grab a book or catch up on recent news. You hate it when people waste your time and are always on the go.” Yup, sounds like me! lol
