One of my favorite indulgences over the holiday season is peppermint bark. The sweetness combined with the mintiness of candy canes is just amazing. Last year when my BFF came to visit we made all different flavors of bark. Of course the peppermint was my favorite, and I couldn’t get enough.
It’s also super easy to make. Seriously, it’s got two ingredients. Just melt, crush, mix and pour. It’s so easy that I almost didn’t share this recipe with you. It felt like I was cheating!
You can even get your kids in on the fun. Mine love to crush up all the candy canes and they also like to break apart the bark once it’s set. They love to see how the melted chocolate hardens and creates a candy. It’s like magic!
This peppermint bark also makes a great gift. You can buy a few mason jars and fill them with bark, add a cute ribbon and a gift tag and it’s a super cute gift this holiday season on the cheap. Perfect for a little extra special touch at work or in a foodie gift basket. You can also just set it out in bowls at a party like you would pretzels or chips.
No matter how you present it, peppermint bark is a staple this time of year and if you don’t know how to make it this is the easiest recipe you can find.
Ingredients for Peppermint Bark:
- 6 squares of almond bark
- 9 candy canes, smashed
Directions:
In a medium microwave safe bowl, add the squares of almond bark. Place in the microwave and heat it 30 second at a time on 50% power until melted and smooth.
Place the candy canes in a ziploc freezer bag and crush them with a mallet of rolling pin. Once the bark has melted, stir in the crushed candy canes.
Get a large cookie sheet and line it with wax paper. Pour the bark on top and spread with the back of a large spoon.
Once set, break apart with a knife. You can break it in even pieces or go the messier route. It doesn’t matter! They’re pretty and tasty no matter what shape they take on.
