We had a wonderful Thanksgiving here in the Harris residence!
Our holiday began with almost 2 days of cooking, lots of laughs, interruptions, sleep loss, and a a few bouts of impatience.
All in all I’d say it was a success, we had all the kids under one roof, my mother in law as well as my aunt and uncle in law. I’m not naming any names, but a few family members fell into a food come, and only 3 dishes didn’t get made that were planned.
In addition to the food pictured on the right, there were also chips and dips, spinach dip and dipping bread, pita chips and hummus, mushroom gravy and a potato salad, as well as a sweet potato and pumpkin pie.
Pictured here is my quiche, pumpkin spice bread with brown sugar glaze, chips and avocado dip, herb seasoned turkey in a bag with roasted fruit and vegetables, slow cooker stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, Mexican cornbread, carrot cake cupcakes with maple cream cheese frosting, 7-Up cake, white chocolate cranberry macadamia nut cookies with brandy, pumpkin spice bread muffins, and ambrosia. It was a feast!!
We attempted to get a new family photo, but our family is big and with young babies it’s difficult to capture their attention so everyone can pose. The middle photo is my favorite, and would have been perfect had my husband and sons heads not gotten cut off! Oh well, I love my family, we had a great Thanksgiving full of all the important “F’s” in life, family, food, fun and football! We served everything buffet style, snacked a lot until eating time, and stuffed ourselves full! Then it was round two for the eating today.
Later this evening I’ll be cutting up the turkey and making a soup out of the carcass. I hope to have that recipe up tomorrow with photos.
I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and for gutsy ones that braved the Black Friday sales, I hope you stayed safe, warm, and found some amazing deals! I just don’t have it in me to brave those crowds after a marathon of cooking and baking. I’m pretty much done for the next day or two!
How was your Thanksgiving? What special traditions do you and your family practice? Do you do a formal dinner or buffet style? I’d love to hear from you! I already have some ideas in my head for next year. Haha.

When I was growing up, we kept Thanksgiving Day focused on being together and expressing gratitude. Some years my mom would have us pause before eating to share what we were most grateful for that year. Other years, we wrote our gratitudes down and put them in a gratitude jar. Some times we would pray around the table thanking God individually and as a family. Mom always served the traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. Then, instead of sleeping off the afternoon meal, we would bundle up and traipse into the woods to cut down a Christmas tree. The next day, Friday, we would decorate the tree and make gingerbread houses. It all blended into one big thankful holiday and always makes me smile when we are able to get together on a Thanksgiving holiday and we still honor the same traditions we grew up with.
