As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
If your summer is going anything like mine, then you are probably constantly trying to come up with some creative ideas for snack time since the kids are home. During the weekend when Big G is off, we try to have a movie night with the kids and we always enjoy coming up with new movie snacks and candy ideas. Well, just last week I was shopping at Walmart and discovered there’s a new candy in town. Mike and Ike Zours® combine the familiar fruit filled chewy candies with a sour fruit flavor that you’re sure to love. My personal favorite flavors are the sour cherry and sour raspberry, while RiRi enjoyed the sour green apple flavor. D-Man liked them all and Lil G enjoyed the sour lemon.
We enjoyed them so much in fact, that we decided to mix them with another favorite of ours. ICE CREAM! Since July has been declared National Ice Cream month, I thought this would be a great way to celebrate. The sour candies were a perfect combination with the sweet and creamy vanilla base. We couldn’t wait to dig into this ice cream, and the kids were bugging me all night for their scoop! I’d say it was a hit, and we’ll definitely be serving it for movie night!
If you’d like to try out Zours® for yourself, you can attend a demo between July 3-July 6 at select Walmart locations. Here and here are the lists to check and see if they will be in your area. Even if they aren’t going to be local to you, go pick up a package of Zours® and show us your best #ZoursFace!
Zours® Homemade Ice Cream Ingredients:
- 6 cups whipping cream
- 4-1/4 cups half and half
- 2-1/4 cups sugar
- 1-1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 2 (3.6 ounce) boxes ZOURS® Mike and Ike candy, cut into quarters
Directions:
Combine the cream, half and half, sugar and vanilla in your ice cream container.
Mix well, then follow the instructions for churning the ice cream.
While it’s churning, cut up the ZOURS® in half, then in half the opposite way.
Once ice cream is done churning, add in the chopped ZOURS® candy, folding them in.
Freeze until ice cream has set to the desired texture (I did mine overnight).
Serve with whipped cream and a cherry on top.
