Sweet Escapes During the Holidays

This time of year can be pretty hectic. Many families are planning their holiday menus, shopping for last minute items, or planning their holiday travels. With my big family, sometimes finding some time for myself to just breathe can be a struggle. My family doesn’t even know this, but sometimes I just park somewhere for 5-10 minutes and relax for some quiet time. I’m always in a rush to drive kids to school, pick them up, cook, clean, run errands, or working on my blog that sometimes I just need to be away from my element and take a breather.

Sometimes I’ll park somewhere and listen to music, or read something, and occasionally I’ll snack on something. It’s not really what I’m doing that’s important, it’s getting out of my element for a bit to gather my thoughts.

I grew up as an only child, and most of my childhood was quiet. Aside from holidays or special occasions, we didn’t have many visitors and my parents worked a lot so I spent a lot of time alone. I used to read, listen to music, draw, and write stories. I didn’t have a tv in my room until I was a mother, so I was very much an introvert and sometimes the chaos of my own family life leaves me needing a breather.

During the holiday season it’s even more important to take that time for myself because the kids are home from school, we have visitors planning to stay or dropping by, and I’m cooking for days before Thanksgiving. Sometimes braving the busy stores during this season can be a bit much for me, so when I saw that you could save $1.00 with the purchase of one PEOPLE® or Sunset® magazine and one REESE’S®, HERSHEY’S® or other selected King Size bar (2.1 to 5.0 oz.) I just imagined taking some quiet time for myself to enjoy these two together. I grabbed my magazine which had a lot of holidays focus and munched on my candy while parked in a gorgeous area. It’s a quiet street that faces a park and the Fall leaves are just gorgeous. This was just the sweet escape I needed to get back to business. Sometimes a small breather like that will leave you recharged and you are more able to focus, at least I am.
