Chili Lime Grilled Pork with Watermelon Pico de Gallo

Savory Grilled Pork Steaks with Watermelon Pico de Gallo (spon) #GrillPork | Mama Harris' Kitchen

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The National Pork Board and the #GrillPork campaign. As always, all opinions are mine alone.   You may or may not know that we are a football family. My husband played football all the way from elementary school through college and may have gone further had he not gotten an injury that prevented him from continuing. Our oldest two sons played football since they were small and now lil G is a junior in high school and already getting scouted and looking at colleges. For years, many of our weekends have been devoted to travelling throughout Northern California attending football games and super bowls of our own, and now that our youngest boys are getting a little older we are getting them ready to start playing as well. Needless to say when it's football season for the big leagues, we are either tuning in at home or attending those games in person. I'm sure it goes without saying that my guys are super excited that … [Continue]

Peanut Butter Chip Cookies Dipped in Chocolate

peanut butter chip cookie dipped in chocolate | Mama Harris' Kitchen

Every time I get a new cookie idea I go to my old faithful cookie recipe and use that as the base. My no-fail cookie recipe for chocolate chip cookies is seriously the best. I love a good, thick cookie with a slightly crispy edge and a soft middle. That's perfection for me, and this recipe always delivers that perfect cookie every time. So it's only natural whenever I'm dreaming up new cookie flavors that this is the base recipe I use. When I created my cherry chip pizookies, this was the recipe I used, and also when I made those yummy cookie cups. Yup, all the same base recipe! So when my best friend dropped a bag of peanut butter baking chips on my counter a while back when she came back from the grocery store, I immediately knew where to start. Peanut butter chip cookies. I also have an affinity for peanut butter and chocolate (doesn't everyone) so I thought, why not dip these cookies in chocolate? The result? A delicious cookie with crispy edges and a soft center bursting … [Continue]

Spicy Gazpacho

spicy gazpacho - Mama Harris' Kitchen

The very first time I tried gazpacho was a few years ago when I traveled to Texas during the hot summer months. It was early in the summer so the weather really wasn't much warmer than what I'm used to in the hotter parts of Northern California. My hair would tell you otherwise because it couldn't decide if it wanted to be frizzy and big or flat at the roots. I ended up fixing my hair about 5 times a day just to be prepared for any photo opps, but that's another story for another time. I had traveled to Texas for a conference, it was actually my first time and it was for an annual food bloggers conference. I was still new to this blogging thing and had no idea what to expect. One of the … [Continue]

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #VivaLaMorena #CollectiveBias When the seasons warm up to triple digit weather my taste buds seem to change. I tend to prefer fresh ingredients, easy to put together foods with lots of colors and I tend to have a preference for foods of the spicier variety as the heat warms up to unbearable temperatures. In the colder months I tend to crave comfort foods and some of my favorite sweets like cookies and fruits. Since this is one of the warmest Augusts we've had in recent years in my area of Northern California I've been craving traditional types of recipes with quite a bit of … [Continue]

Over the summer I've made a few recipes that include one of my favorite pantry staples, P.A.N. Cornmeal. I shared a delicious dessert recipe for a nectarine and plum cobbler using cornmeal that was a twist on a classic dessert. I also shared a fun breakfast recipe for cornbread battered breakfast bites with sausage and egg that my kids just loved! I decided to make a more traditional recipe for the P.A.N. Cornmeal since it's the number one cornmeal in South America. Although arepas is a classic … [Continue]

Having two smaller children in the house can make some meals interesting. If I'm not careful, they will have nothing but cereal, waffles, yogurt and sandwiches to eat all day long. Not that any of that is bad, but I do try to get lots of colorful foods in my kids diets and a variety of flavors, colors and textures. So I try to make mealtimes fun and this summer it's been necessary to cultivate a little more creativity to get them excited about new things. My kids love corn dogs, they also love … [Continue]

Chili Cheese Grilled and Stuffed Bell Peppers

Chili Cheese Grilled and Stuffed Bell Peppers #LiquidGold5 with VELVEETA (ad) - Mama Harris' Kitchen

This post is sponsored by VELVEETA® . All opinions are my own. At the beginning of the month we made it official and furnished our backyard. We've been spending so much of our time outside, whether gardening or grilling, so why not make it as comfortable as possible? Since then we find ourselves gravitating to our backyard more often. Whether it's in the mornings to enjoy our morning coffee or in the evenings after dinner just to get some fresh air. We've also been grilling a lot more often than past summers, but nobody is complaining! We keep the house cool, get fresh air, and no need to turn on the oven. I'd call that a win/win! When we are entertaining, one of my favorite dips to … [Continue]

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Honey Bunches of Oats. As always, all opinions are mine alone. I'm such a snacker in the summertime, I could eat a variety of hors d'oeuvres as a meal anyday. Well, maybe that's not just reserved for the summer, but I do prefer lighter foods and tastes in the warmer months. One of my favorite appetizers is stuffed mushrooms. Oh, I'm a lover of all things mushroom, and these babies are just so tasty. There's such a variety of ways to make stuffed mushrooms, you can use big mushrooms or small, button mushrooms or baby bellas. There's also a variety of flavors you can stuff them with, but today I decided on crab stuffed mushrooms. … [Continue]

Every day I have so much to do, from writing and testing recipes to taking photos or editing them, as well as answering emails and everything else that being a food blogger entails. I have to admit that I had gotten used to the little ones in school so summer has been quite an adjustment, sometimes I wake up earlier or stay up later to balance it out so I can spend time with my kiddos … [Continue]
